We are looking for an
Senior Scientist
We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Senior Scientist to join ABS Biotechnologies GmbH, an Austrian-based Startup.
Our mission is to use next-generation stem cell technology for rigorous screening of new drug compounds. This prevents the exposure of patients to harmful side effects.
Your Role
To design, with guidance, and perform experimental programmes required to support the transfer of processes from the laboratory to the MVP scale.
Lead the setting up and optimization of cardiovascular cell production and functional assessment.
Lead and develop a strong team-based culture, fostering scientific and operational excellence.
Become a valued team member involved in the long-term strategic planning and implementation of our cardiac and vascular toxicology testing and drug discovery technology.
Exhibit creativity and independence in problem-solving while closely working with CSO and CTO. Lead the setting up of an industrial-scale cardiovascular cell production pipeline and quality control measures.
Implement SOPs for the generation of ventricular and atrial cardiomyocytes.
Facilitate the generation of large frozen cell stocks with optimized freeze-thaw viability.
Implement and optimize SOPs for the generation and characterization of cardiomyocytes and epicardial cells.
Facilitate the implementation of microelectrode array (MEA)- as well as Ca2+-dye based functional assessment of cardiomyocytes derived from inhouse generated hiPSCs. Downstream processing of samples, eg flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, microscopy and data analysis.
Accurately record the experiments performed and ensure full documentation compliant with R&D quality procedures.
Contribute to growing ABS Biotechnologies profile by presentations at scientific and investor meetings.
Essential
Ph.D. in biological sciences, or a closely related field.
Experience with human iPS cell culture and cardiovascular cell differentiation, including high purity cardiomyocytes.
Evidence of influential scientific research, study design, and technologies used in stem cells and cardiovascular research.
To be based in Austria with significant periods of time spent in Cambridge, UK.
Desirable
3 years post-doctoral experience.
Experience with functional assessment of cardiomyocytes, including Ca2+-imaging & microelectrode array - highly desirable.
Experience with bioreactor-based cardiomyocyte culture.
Additional experience in the industrial or biotech sector in the cardiovascular stem cell-based area.
Thorough knowledge of the science and technology underlying biological manufacturing, as well as analytical methods supporting commercial manufacturing activities.
A strategic thinker with a strong focus on results, a feeling of urgency, and the ability to achieve results on time, with highl ethical and professional standards.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the capacity to forge close connections across functional lines and explain complicated challenges to the development and executive teams.
Hands-on problem solver having the capacity to foresee unfavorable circumstances and offer solutions for them.
Team player, able to train and supervise the experimental work of technical personnel.
